BEWARE OF SCAMMERS
It has come to our attention that, once again, there have been incidents of scam attempts claiming that Fr. Tom needs you to purchase gift cards for an emergency situation. Do not respond.
Be suspicious of any messages that request money or gift cards over the phone, text or by email.
Examine the originating email address and verify if it is the correct address of the person from whom the message claims.
Sometimes the syntax is awkward or incorrect within the message of a scammer (use of tenses, grammar, punctuation…)
There may be a story that sets up an unusual need that is false. These are clues that you ought not to respond. Hit delete!

1. The days of both fast and abstinence are Ash Wednesday (March 5) and Good Friday (April 18).
2. The other Fridays of Lent (Mar. 7, 14, 21, 28; April (4, and 11) are days of abstinence.
3. Fasting in the Roman Catholic tradition means to limit oneself to one full meal with two smaller meals which together do not equal the size of your full meal. The obligation of fasting applies only to Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59.
Abstinence in the Roman Catholic tradition means to abstain from eating meat (beef, chicken, pork, turkey,
etc.). The obligation of abstinence applies to all
Catholics who have reached the age of 14.

Sunday Feb 9th for Wildfire Relief
We have seen the devastating images of the California wildfires. Bishop Checchio encourages all parishes to take a voluntary collection, and he thanks those who have already done so. As in the case of the recent Hurricane collection, the proceeds will go to Catholic Charities USA who are coordinating assistance from throughout the country, and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for their local use particularly through their own Catholic Charities. This Weekend
February 2, is our monthly food collection for the Food Bank Network of Somerset County. Please be as generous as possible. Food insecurity is at an all time high. Your donations of canned or boxed foods help feed over 1500 families per month. As always, thank you for your generosity. Any questions, contact Christine Esposito at the parish office.
